ILLUMINATING STAR LAMP
GUIDELINES

Here are some guidelines and helpful hints to help you create a work of art that you can hang anywhere.

These lamps are made of paper sturdy enough to hold the shape of the star yet thin enough to allow light to shine through.  Care must be taken when working with your star.  Too much stress on the joints may cause tearing.  To avoid this, work with your star in it's folded position.  Do not open your star until you are ready to hang it and it has had at least 24 hours to dry.

Apply your base color first using pastel chalks, sponged or stippled on dye ink or any other favorite medium.  When working with your star, keep it in the folded position. Work on one point of the star at a time, flipping through each one as you would turning pages in a book.  Next stamp your design keeping in mind which part of each point is the star's front and back.  You may also embellish your star by gluing on rhinestones or by punching different shaped holes.  Before opening your star make sure it is dry.  Lamps sponged or stippled with dye ink or painted with water colors should be allowed to dry for at least 24 hours.  Gently open your star by placing a hand into each point one at a time as you unfold it.  Place the light bulb* in the center of the lamp making sure it is not touching the paper.  Close the star around the cord.  Bow tie the string around the cord.

*Bulb not included.  Candelabra style light bulb can be purchased at any store.  Do not use a light bulb greater than 40 watts.  Make sure bulb is not touching paper.  Improper use such as using a bulb greater than 40 watts or letting bulb touch paper can create a fire hazard.
